How to Stay Awake

For my own experience, these are my proven ways to stay awake at work whenever I get sleepy. Sometimes, I just can't help but stay late at night or maybe I had a long night which resulted to groginess or a pair of eyes that seem to close every chance it gets. Of course, it's not the company's fault why sometimes I am sleepy at work so I should always be up and at my best when doing my job. For years of working, I found some temporary remedies and has proven to be effective.

1. Soda with lots of caffeine - Whatever brand works for me as long as it has lots of caffeine. Since I don't drink soda everyday, only when needed, I neglect to bring my own supply of soda so I had to buy at the vending machine in one of our breakrooms for $1.15 a bottle. It can be expensive...

2. Coffee - Doesn't have to be with so much stuff in it. Just plain coffee will do. Again, I'm not a coffee drinker. I just drink when need be which is when I need perking up. We have percolators on our two breakrooms at the office and a continous supply of Starbucks so it's not a problem making a cup of hot coffee anytime of the day.

3. Tea - This helps, too. Sometimes I get sleepy because it's freezing at the office so having a cup of tea provides enough heat that warms me up. It's healthy, too and do I need to say that it's also free? Unless I am picky with the flavor which will result in me buying my own tea.

4. Chocolate drink - The only issue I have with this is that sometimes I can't help but drink more than one cup especially those with marshmallows so instead of helping, this can make me even more sleepy. I think it's because of its sugar content.

5. Food or Munchies - Yes, food does help but I try not to overeat. I get carried away sometimes especially if it's popcorn with caramel or granola bars. They can fill me up easily so like the chocolate drink, it slows me down instead of making me lively and energetic. So I avoid bringing lots of snacks at the office. We have a vending machine at the office anyway for little snacks so anytime I'd like to eat something, I can just buy there.

6. Lunch Out or at Cafeteria - If everything else fails and I know it's going to get worse in the afternoon if I don't do something, then I eat out at lunch. Breath some fresh air and eat good food at one of the restaurants nearby. I can also use the exercise in walking from the campus to the garage. It's a nice break away from my cube.

7. Sleep early - Yup! I try to sleep early that night and try to catch up on lost sleep. So that the following day, I am more relaxed and energized. Losing sleep is not healthy I know and will take its toll in time.

Well, I hope I have shared something good today. They are common solutions but they are effective for me. If you have any other ideas you can share, leave me a message here and I will try your idea. It might work for me, too. wink*
